MM Miller has amassed considerable civil engineering experience, from complex drainage systems to large scale concrete works all over the Highlands.

A recent example is the drainage for Oldwick, an 88 plot housing development where design was required as part of the SUDS legislation (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems). This meant the drilling and blasting of thousands of tonnes of Caithness stone to allow for the gradients required. As part of this design an attenuation pond incorporating a hydro break has been formed by cut and fill, using much of the spoil from the cutting and blasting procedure. These skills have been incorporated or enhanced in other projects such as the Dingwall Recycling Centre which involved a modular cell drainage system to prevent environmental contamination from urban waste.

Environmental protection work is never more evident than at the Dounreay Site which in its decommissioning stage has employed MM Miller to erect 2 nuclear decommissioning buildings (Prototype Fast Reactor - Effluent Treatment Plant and office block (D2003), an oil storage facility (D2152 tank farm and access road) and many smaller infrastructure contracts throughout the site.

All the above works have involved high quality, environmentally conscious and safe working solutions to construction problems such as the vast quantities of concrete poured, using various means - at height, in deep excavations or under overhead obstructions, excavations such as the 7m deep containment pit drilled and broken at PFR ETP.

High Street rejuvenation and pedestrianisation works in Inverness and Alness have been successfully completed against a backdrop of traffic management in busy thoroughfares, occupied commercial premises and congested foot traffic.
